New Suggestions | GameGum - Free Flash Games

Alright, this will become a new and permanent suggestion thread for GameGum.  Here we can discuss some more broad and influential changes that you as a community think should be implemented.



I will start with a few features I want to begin implementing soon and that should come into effect.  Please feel free to leave insightful opinions on whether or not you would want any of these and feel free to add many more.



To begin, I think the following are fairly important:

• "Developing/Beta/WIP" area:  A new option for submitting games that would allow developers to gain feedback before putting the games into the real portal.  This could use a new section in the portal, or just be implemented in profiles, or something else entirely.
  
  


• Flesh out profile pages:  As GameGum is a flash gaming community, there should be more emphasis here.  I'm thinking an information/visual redesign but also a few other things.  We could add commenting on profiles ala Deviantart.


• Referral system:  Earn GumPoints for referring friends, this one is a given.


• Better "friend" tracking:  New visual cues to let you know if you are their friend or they are yours, especially in comments, forums and on games.


• Contests:  Yes, cash prizes always bring in new people, and give developers incentive for their hard work.  We definitely want to start on these.


• Better game version tracking:  Maybe allow for a separate post that can be filled out when you update a game.  Maybe add a sidebar that tracks and dates new updates.  This needs some thinking.

I agree with most of those, proph3t.

A developing / beta / WIP area would be handy as long as users can edit them after they're put on. Cos on Newgrounds I get annoyed when I submit a demo, with a set release date for, say... February, when I realise it's not gonna be ready till about May. Then people start complaining and it's all because i couldn't edit my demo.



The profile pages could use a bit of spicing up... not that I'm too bothered.



Referral system? Hey... anything to get more gumpoints, that's fine!



Friend tracking I suppose would be good but I don't really need a cue that this guy is my friend when I'm on a forum... it could get rather annoying.



Contests? MONEY!!! A must.



Game version tracking... Yeah. I guess.







As for my own ideas, erm...



-Change the .fla size limit from 5 megs to 10 megs. Just in case there's something really big I wanna make that I don't wanna split into 2 parts.



-How about adding a reviews section so people can review other people's flash (a la Newgrounds) as well as just voting.

Alright thanks for the feedback, I have changed the swf max size now from 8mb to 10mb which will be the new max.



@tank2tank - Reviews as in "Sound", "Graphics", "Gameplay" ratings?



@Ninbendo - There will be a GameGum media page coming in the future that will provide preloaders and other graphics that may be needed.

In opera, your forum post count is beside your avatar, not under it. It looks bad.

What about the revenue sharing system? I'm really interested in that and I don't know exactly what is going on with that...

OK, I don't see how that works with Yahoo ads, but ok...
