Explaining GameGum: GumPoints

One of the most unique and rather new features to make an appearance on GameGum is GumPoints. While they are not yet being put to much use, the framework and concept of them should be obvious and their addition is one we are excited about. To begin, what are GumPoints? GumPoints are given to each user based on their participation in the GameGum community.
GumPoints are calculated from a few different factors on the site. To be eligible to receive them, obviously, you must be registered and must have confirmed your email address. The first factor that calculates GumPoints are the ratings a user has given out. Each time you rate a game you receive a low number of GumPoints. The next factor, and slightly more important one, is commenting on games. Each comment is worth a slightly larger amount of GumPoints than rating games. The final factor is game submissions, which are much more highly weighted than commenting or rating. All of these factors combine to create the total number of GumPoints each user has.
Why all the secrecy around the actual numbers GumPoints are worth? No real reason, other than the fact that the numbers are purposely not set in stone. Occasionally they may be tweaked to better represent users' contributions to the community and so it would be misleading to post the actual number as they would most likely change in the future. It would not be very hard to do some research into different users to find out the exact numbers though, but that is up to you.
We have quite a few exciting ideas in development that are going to be using GumPoints all around the site and of course we will keep you all posted here in the news section on the progress with those.
