GameGum Refresh

Clear your cache out folks and refresh your browser a few times to get a look at the newly refreshed design!  Today we have implemented what we believe is a huge step forward as far as overall functionality and design of the site.  This is the first of a two part update, with this release focusing on a redesign as well as improvements to site functionality and a couple minor features implemented.

Besides our behind the scenes speed ups and bug fixes, we bring a few cool new things with this release.  First is a new width, which should fit in the browsers of a vast majority of our visitors and allow larger game viewing areas right on the page.  In the forums, we have redone the "Latest Threads" area, and it now displays the latest threads separated into each section.  Profile pages have had a slight redesign, and now show each users recent activity right below the usual stats as well as their updated look.

The submit form has been simplified further, and I must say the form itself is one of the best examples of what GameGum is about.  We have focused on simplicity, ease of use, and yet we still provide everything you need on one page.  To note, the form requires a minimum of only three fields before you can have a game in the portal!  Compare that to the seven fields required at minimum when submitting on Newgrounds and five at Kongregate (two sites we compare to out of respect).  Comments no longer require subjects, something we felt was unnecessary and is now thankfully removed.

Thats all for now, we will continue with some more cool new features coming very soon.  In our list of to-do for the release, our top priorities are implementing a new "screenshot" system whereby a user can take a screenshot of a game they are playing that is stored right in the games "gallery".  Screenshots can then be used when a game is featured, allowing for a better look at how the game actually plays and a cool new way for players to compare high scores and cool moments in their games.  The other is an ajax based, sitewide chat system that will be integrated into the games and user accounts.  This will accompany a redesign of the game pages which will allow for both features to easily integrate.  More to come!
